The Solheim Cup, golf in Estepona

Next September the Solheim Cup will take place, a biennial golf tournament that will bring together the women’s teams from Europe and the USA at the Finca Cortesin facilities in Estepona.

The Solheim Cup is a tournament born from the initiative of the sports equipment manufacturer Karsten Solheim in 1990, the date of its first edition.
The tournament is the equivalent of the men’s Rayder Cup and this year 2023 we celebrate its 18th edition in Spain and specifically in the facilities of Finca Cortesin, a traditional Andalusian style golf resort with luxury hotel and spa located in Estepona, Malaga, specifically in Casares.

Finca Cortesin was opened in 2006 and consists of the Hotel Cortesin with 67 luxury suites, beach club, spa and of course, an excellent 18-hole golf course which boasts the best greens in southern Spain and is also home to the Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy.

Finca Cortesin is a member of the exclusive European Tour Destinations network and has hosted three Volvo Match Play Championships.

The Solheim Cup is undoubtedly a world-class sporting event and this year we are delighted that it will be held in our wonderful area of Marbella, Benahavis and Estepona, where golf is one of the reasons we are chosen by people from all over the world.

The competition will take place from 18th to 24th September 2023 and consists of 28 matches played by the European and USA teams of 12 players each.

On the first and second day of competition four Foursomes (pair of players for each team) will be played in the morning and four Fourballs (best ball) in the afternoon and on the third day 12 singles will be played.

Until this 2023 edition, the balance of victories of the European team is 7 to 10 in favour of the USA, although in the last two editions it has been the European team who took the victory.

We will see how this 18th edition develops and if the European team is able to take it. They come with a good team and a lot of enthusiasm.
