In addition to the numerous attractions that Marbella has, its strategic location allows its residents to have access to a sporting activity such as skiing in approximately two and a half hours. We are talking about Sierra Nevada, in the province of Granada.
Without a doubt, it is a privilege to reside in Marbella. The possibility of playing a game of golf on one of the many courses around Marbella and during the course comment on the idea of “don’t you feel like skiing? let’s go tomorrow! It’s great.
We have this possibility thanks to the existence of a magnificent ski resort located 30 minutes from the city of Granada.
Founded in 1964, the Sierra Nevada ski resort has 131 slopes arranged according to their difficulty by colour: 19 of them are very easy (green), 45 are easy (blue), 53 are difficult (red), 7 are very difficult (black) and 7 are snow parks, for easy identification by visitors, both the more expert and the novice, and those who want to learn to ski in the 15 schools available with 400 teachers.
The resort’s skiable drop is 1,200 metres, making it the longest in Spain, with a total length of 110 kilometres. The longest run is over 6 kilometres long.
The resort has a capacity for 45,207 skiers per hour to be transported by mechanical means (chairlifts, gondolas, ski lifts and carpet transport).
It is also equipped with 364 artificial snow cannons for which it has a water storage capacity of 195,000 cubic metres.
The ideal way to plan a visit to the Sierra Nevada is to spend at least a weekend, appreciate the place in advance and take advantage of its high quality accommodation, hotels such as the Vincci Selección Rumaykiyya and the Lodge, five star Ski and Spa, the Kenia Nevada Hotel, Meliá Sierra Nevada and the Meliá Sol y Nieve with four stars, several more with three stars and apartment buildings for rent.
Before planning your stay it is advisable to check the weather in the Sierra Nevada and have a look at the Sierra Nevada webcam to choose the best days and avoid any surprises in the weather as well as buying our ski passes.
In Sierra Nevada, as well as practising sports such as cross-country skiing, mountain skiing and snowboarding, you will find restaurants and bars where you can recharge your batteries and spend a pleasant time chatting before taking a stroll through the shops specialising in skiing equipment and winter fashion. It is a pleasure to enjoy the winter sun on one of the terraces while having a drink and admiring the landscape, even the African coast.
For the little ones, Sierra Nevada has prepared activities and centres where they can enjoy the atmosphere in the snow in their Kids Club and leisure centres.
A visit to the city of Granada, known worldwide for its monument of identity, the Alhambra, is a must, either on the way there, on the way back or during the stay.
